About the Position
As a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry, you will join our dynamic and forward-thinking service providing paediatric and special care dentistry across ten boroughs in north London. The post-holder will be responsible for specialist treatment of children with complex needs, including those requiring treatment under general anaesthesia and conscious sedation.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide specialist Paediatric clinical care to children with additional or special care needs, including those with challenging behavioral disorders, complicated social histories, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit disorders, and complex medical histories. You will also provide clinical leadership for the development of Paediatric Dentistry in the service.
Clinical Duties
Your clinical responsibilities will include providing comprehensive dental treatment services for patients requiring special paediatric care, managing delivery of specialist Paediatric dentistry within dental surgeries and other sites, and demonstrating professional and clinical leadership in providing treatment safely and to a high standard.
Leadership and Management
You will provide clinical supervision of staff, potentially including trainees in paediatric dentistry, carry out appraisals of colleagues, and implement appropriate training programs. You will demonstrate leadership in the development of paediatric dentistry, offering professional leadership, and promoting children’s oral health.
Collaboration
The role involves contributing to and supporting teams involved in the care of children with complex problems, offering advice and support to health professionals in other disciplines, and working with others in the health, local authority, and voluntary sectors to raise awareness of the oral health needs of children with special needs.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must hold full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC) and be on the NHS Dental Performers List. You must have passed the Tricollegiate MPaedDent Examination and have evidence of continuing post-graduate education.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Paediatric Dentistry, or Membership in Paediatric Dentistry, would be advantageous. Additional qualifications in IV sedation are also desirable.
Essential Experience
You should have experience or training equivalent to that expected after 3 years of specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry, with additional NHS experience in Paediatric Dentistry following the attainment of this standard. You must have extensive experience in the clinical management of paediatric patients with complex and challenging needs, including those with dental trauma and compromised first permanent molars.
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate effective participation in audit, ability to appraise scientific literature critically, and experience of teaching, training, and clinical supervision. You should also have leadership of clinical services, project management skills, and an understanding of NHS clinical pathways for paediatric dental care.
