About the Position

We are seeking a Specialist in Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics to join our Community Paediatric Service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be a clinical expert in Community Paediatrics and be expected to deliver appropriate subspecialty care in Neurodevelopmental medicine.

The Trust provides high quality planned and emergency care, cardiac, critical care, child health, maternity services and intermediate care at multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be a senior non-Consultant member of the Community Paediatric Service. Working autonomously, this Specialist grade doctor will take responsibility for the patients under their care and be able to manage a full range of presentations within the Service. The successful candidate will undertake independent outpatient clinics and cover the on-call in hours rota.

The service aims to ensure that the health needs of children within Central Cheshire are met, so that every child attains his/her potential. We identify, as early as possible, any children with special needs, so that relevant services and support are given to minimise the effect of the problem. We provide a timely and comprehensive service.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must hold Full Registration with the GMC and a Licence to Practise. A Primary Medical Degree is required, along with a minimum of 12 years’ medical work since obtaining the qualification, with at least six years in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, MRCPCH (Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health) is considered desirable for this position.

Essential Experience

Considerable experience in Community Paediatrics is essential, along with completion of a Basic Life support course. Applicants must meet the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.

Training and Professional Development

The successful candidate will be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in training and development activities and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post. They will undertake statutory and mandatory training as deemed appropriate by the Trust.

Leadership and Teamwork

The post holder will be expected to provide leadership/direction within the specialty and deliver a team approach to care through the establishment of explicit lines of communication. They will participate in multidisciplinary forums to ensure that patients receive care appropriate to their needs.

Quality Improvement

The successful candidate will have knowledge, interest and commitment to quality improvement, with knowledge of quality improvement techniques and involvement in projects. They will demonstrate active engagement with clinical audit and an awareness of current subspecialty developments, initiatives, and issues.

Research and Evidence-Based Practice

Applicants should have an appreciation of the significance and use of research, with the ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems. While not essential, experience of research methodology and evidence of having undertaken original research would be beneficial.
