Position Details
This Respiratory Consultant position offers a competitive salary range of £110,240 to £160,951 per annum pro rata for part-time hours. The role is permanent and part-time, providing excellent work-life balance opportunities. The reference number for this position is 100-MED-WGH-200-A.
Location Information
The successful candidate will be based at Withybush General Hospital, Fishguard Road, Haverfordwest, SA67 2PZ. Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Respiratory Consultant will provide, in collaboration with consultant colleagues, comprehensive general medicine services while supporting the development of sub-specialty interests. The role carries responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness within both hospital and community settings.
Clinical Responsibilities
All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for maintaining their own clinical competence and must limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. As a senior employee of the Health Board, the post holder will work in close cooperation with clinical, medical professional, and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality healthcare to patients.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must possess full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice, along with MRCP qualification. Applicants should be on the Specialist Register with GMC or have CCT due within 6 months of the interview date. Alternatively, CESR or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration are acceptable.
Clinical Experience Requirements
Essential clinical experience includes broad-based expertise in General Internal Medicine and respiratory medicine, knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent), active participation in CPD, and demonstrated expertise in General Internal Medicine. Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS is also required.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
While not essential, desirable qualifications include an appropriate Higher Degree (MD, PhD, or MSc or equivalent). Previous experience within the NHS system, wider experience in research and training for sub-specialty service provision, evidence of above-average performance, and additional clinical qualifications would be advantageous.
Research and Teaching Experience
Ideal candidates will possess experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence to improve clinical outcomes. Evidence of organizing programs and teaching medical students and resident doctors is essential. Desirable attributes include experience initiating, progressing, and concluding research projects with publications, research degrees, organization of further teaching programs in medical education, and “Training the Trainers” experience.
