Job Summary
The South Durham and Darlington Acute Liaison team are seeking a permanent, skilled, qualified clinician to provide mental health assessment, advice, diagnosis, treatment and care planning to patients with complex needs. This band 6 post is open to registered Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers with current relevant registration with the NMC, HCPC or Social Work England.

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold one of the following:
- RNMH with current professional registration with NMC
- Current professional registration with HCPC
- Current professional registration with Social Work England
Additionally, applicants must have:
- 18 months post qualifying experience including signoff of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications would be advantageous:
- Leadership or management qualification
- Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area such as older people’s nursing or physical health conditions
- Non-medical prescriber qualification
Essential Experience
All applicants must demonstrate:
- Recent and significant experience in the assessment and care of adults and older people with mental ill health
- Experience working with people with dementia
- Experience managing own caseload
- Experience working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Experience supporting/mentoring students on practice placement
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience with quality improvement activities
Desirable Experience
While not essential, the following experience would be advantageous:
- Recent experience providing care across a range of settings including acute hospitals, mental health units, and care homes
- Recent experience in assessing and caring for older people with dementia
- Leadership or management experience
- Experience providing clinical supervision
Main Duties of the Job
Working closely with other professionals in the team, the post holder will work across traditional age barriers to provide a liaison service that is inclusive of all adults aged 18 and over. The post will be supported by a clinical team consisting of Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Physiotherapy and Pharmacy.
The service operates 7 days a week over 24 hours, therefore unsocial hours, including night duty is an expectation of this role. Applicants with experience working with patients who have dementia and/or self-harm behaviour, patients in crisis, and skills in CBT and Brief Solution Focused Therapy would be at an advantage.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Applicants should be highly motivated, have the ability to act on their own initiative, and possess sound assessment and written skills. The ability to prioritize workload and utilize resources appropriately to ensure service user needs are met is highly required.
