Responsibilities
Driving Operations
As a Long Haul Truck Driver, you will be responsible for operating and driving straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials across various routes, including mountainous terrain. Your expertise in mountain driving will be essential for safely navigating challenging road conditions while maintaining delivery schedules.
Vehicle Maintenance
You will perform comprehensive vehicle inspections including pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections. This includes overseeing the condition of the vehicle and inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment. You’ll also be responsible for performing brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, and preventive maintenance to ensure vehicle reliability.
cargo Handling
Proper loading and unloading of goods is a key responsibility. You will perform tarping operations and ensure the safety and security of cargo throughout the transportation process. Additionally, you’ll record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption as required by regulatory standards.
Compliance and Documentation
Obtaining special permits and other documents required for transporting cargo on international routes is essential. You’ll need to maintain all necessary documentation and ensure compliance with transportation regulations. Additionally, you’ll address customers’ complaints or concerns with professionalism and resolve issues promptly.
Team Collaboration
When required, you will drive as part of a two-person team or convoy, coordinating with other drivers to ensure efficient delivery operations. You’ll also coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques, sharing your expertise to enhance team performance and safety standards.
Requirements
Education and Certification
Applicants must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License (Class 1 or A). Additionally, an Air Brakes Endorsement is required for this position. These certifications demonstrate your qualification to operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
Experience
Minimum experience operating tractor-trailer vehicles is required. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive long-haul driving experience, particularly those familiar with Canadian roadways and mountain driving conditions.
