Black Empire is seeking experienced Long Haul Truck Drivers to join our team in Peterborough, Ontario. This is a permanent, full-time position offering competitive compensation and the opportunity to work in one of Canada’s most important industries. As a Long Haul Truck Driver, you will be responsible for transporting goods across various routes, including international borders, while ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with all regulations.
Compensation and Schedule
This position offers an attractive hourly wage of $34.50, with potential earnings based on 40 to 60 hours per week. Overtime opportunities are available, providing additional income potential. The schedule is flexible and includes early morning, morning, day, evening, night, and weekend shifts, allowing for work-life balance based on your preferences.

The primary work location is at 2193 SPRINGWOOD RD, Peterborough, ON K9K 1S3. This position requires on-site work, meaning you’ll be operating from our Peterborough base. Position Overview
As a Long Haul Truck Driver with Black Empire, you will be at the forefront of Canada’s supply chain, ensuring goods are transported safely and efficiently across the country. This role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety standards. You will have the opportunity to work independently while being part of a supportive team that values your contributions.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include addressing customers’ complaints or concerns with professionalism, coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques to improve efficiency, arranging travel and related itineraries as needed. You will be responsible for driving lighter, special purpose trucks, obtaining special permits and other documents required for international transportation routes, and ensuring compliance with all border crossing requirements.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection
A critical aspect of this role involves overseeing the condition of your vehicle, including regular inspections of tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment. You will perform brake adjustments, emergency roadside repairs, and conduct thorough pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is always in optimal condition for safe operation.
Documentation and Record Keeping
Maintaining accurate documentation is essential in this position. You will be responsible for completing accident or incident reports, handling bills of lading, maintaining driver logbooks, documenting maintenance and repair reports, and managing trans-border documentation. Additionally, you’ll record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Cargo Handling and Safety
Safety is paramount in our operations. Your duties will include tarping cargo and ensuring the safety and security of all transported goods. When required, you will transport and handle dangerous goods, following all safety protocols and regulations specific to hazardous materials transport. This responsibility requires special attention to detail and adherence to safety standards.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must hold a valid AZ class license, which is required for operating commercial vehicles in Ontario. This license demonstrates your qualification and capability to handle the responsibilities of a long haul truck driver. If you are an immigrant to Canada, you may need to have your foreign license assessed and potentially obtain an Ontario AZ license.
