Position Details

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed Consultant Radiologist will contribute significantly to our diagnostic GIHPB radiology workload and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) commitments. You will join our specialized sub-specialty team providing crucial support to the Leeds Liver Unit, one of the largest liver units in the United Kingdom. The role involves participating in regional tertiary Liver/Gallbladder and Pancreatic MDTs, contributing to the department’s diagnostic radiology on-call service, and supporting our growing GIHPB and Acute Radiology services.

Clinical Excellence and Service Development

The successful candidate will demonstrate established skills in GIHPB Radiology with particular expertise in HPB cancer MDTs at a tertiary referral level. You will work alongside clinicians in tertiary referral specialties including hepatology, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, and liver transplantation. The department serves patients under the care of these specialized teams, providing comprehensive imaging support for complex cases and contributing to service development initiatives.

Research and Academic Opportunities

Our department maintains a significant teaching and research profile, containing one of three national radiology training academies with extensive educational facilities. We have established a NIHR-funded research 3T MRI as part of the Leeds Biomedical Research Unit, where imaging plays a crucial role in musculoskeletal projects and radiology-specific research. Recently, we secured funding for developing an academic programme focusing on oncology radiology led by a Professor of Radiology, offering exceptional research opportunities.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must hold FRCR or equivalent qualification and be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) at the time of appointment with a current licence to practice.
