Professional Qualifications

Language Requirements

Essential Experience

The successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric anaesthesia, specifically showing advanced training in this specialty. Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances is required, along with experience in medical research, training undergraduate and postgraduate students, and participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

While not essential, possession of a relevant higher degree is desirable. Additional desirable experience includes previous supervision of research by junior staff, attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops, and completion of recognised management courses.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery

The post-holder will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to provide comprehensive anaesthetic services. This includes developing and consolidating expertise in paediatric anaesthesia, maintaining teaching and research excellence, supporting service development plans, and participating in Clinical Governance.

Teaching Commitments

As a teaching hospital, the Trust maintains strong links with the University of Leeds School of Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, including training for SpRs in anaesthesia within the Yorkshire Deanery.

Job Plan and Working Arrangements

The position consists of 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA). Annual job plan reviews will be conducted with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Anaesthesia. The post-holder will have access to secretarial support and office facilities with IT equipment.

Professional Development

The Trust fully supports Continuing Medical Education requirements and acknowledges its importance as an essential component of professional activities. Time and financial support for CME activities will be granted in accordance with Trust policies, with arrangements managed through the medical director for workforce.
