Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Health Care Assistant to join our dynamic nursing team. This permanent part-time position offers 19.5 hours per week across 3 days, providing an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals looking to relocate to the United Kingdom. Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include conducting home visits for patients unable to attend the surgery for their annual reviews (maximum 3 patients weekly), managing and maintaining clinical stock and equipment, and performing routine patient care procedures. You will work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Clinical Duties
Your clinical responsibilities will include taking patient observations (blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, temperature, and weight), performing phlebotomy procedures, recording ECGs, administering vaccinations and injections under a Patient Specific Direction (PSD), conducting diabetic foot checks, and providing wound care. You will also follow strict infection control and confidentiality procedures at all times.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must possess a healthcare qualification at level 3 or 4, or be working towards gaining equivalent level certification. Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate (as per GP Mythbuster No 57 – HCAs in General Practice) is essential, along with phlebotomy and vaccination certifications. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are mandatory requirements for this position.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, experience within a GP practice setting is highly desirable. Familiarity with using SystemOne clinical software and experience as a Health Care Assistant or Nursing Associate in primary care/community settings will be advantageous. Competency in phlebotomy, ECG recording, vaccine administration, wound care, and diabetic foot checks is preferred.
Essential Experience Requirements
We require candidates with experience working with the general public and in healthcare settings. Specific experience should include ECGs, venepuncture, new patient medicals (including height, weight, BP, pulse measurements), chaperone procedures, and the ability to record accurate clinical notes. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.
