Position Details

This consultant position specialises in myeloma treatment and general haematology, offering a competitive salary range of £110,240 to £160,951 per annum. The role is full-time and permanent, based primarily at Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen, with responsibilities across our four hospital sites.

Work Schedule and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will participate in a 10-session working week with 2 supporting professional activities (SPA) sessions. Clinical duties include 3-4 outpatient clinics weekly, focusing on myeloma and general haematology cases. The appointee will also participate in the attending and on-call rota for the Carmarthen site, providing consultative support to peripheral hospital sites.

Clinical Team Support

You will join our dedicated team of 7 consultant haematologists and receive comprehensive support from Associate Specialists, specialty doctors, clinical fellows, foundation trainees, haematology Clinical Nurse Specialists, and specialist pharmacists. Our vision is to provide future-proofed services ensuring patients receive care as close to home as possible.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

The role includes participation in weekly health board-wide multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and opportunities to join all-Wales MDTs. This collaborative approach ensures comprehensive patient care and professional development opportunities within the wider Welsh healthcare system.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice, with placement on the Specialist Register or expected CCT within 6 months of interview. Essential qualifications include MRCP and/or FRCPath, valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills, and broad-based experience in clinical haematology.

Clinical Expertise Requirements

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in myeloma treatments and malignant disease management, competence in general haematology, and experience with on-call responsibilities. Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent) and active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) are essential.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, preference will be given to candidates with appropriate higher degrees (MD, PhD, or MSc equivalent), NHS experience, wider sub-specialty service experience, evidence of above-average performance, Royal College of Physicians membership, or additional clinical qualifications.
