Position Details
We are looking for experienced General Practitioners who are either GMC-registered or within 6 months of completing CCT. The successful candidates will work in our fast-paced Urgent Treatment Centre, providing same-day care for minor injuries and illnesses in both adults and children from birth.
Location and Schedule
Based at Colchester Hospital’s Urgent Treatment Centre on Turner Road, CO4 5JL, this position offers shift availability from 07:00-00:00, 7 days a week including weekends and Bank Holidays. We offer flexible working arrangements including full-time, part-time, and flexible working options to accommodate your relocation needs.
Salary and Benefits Package
We offer an attractive salary range of £76,038 to £114,743 per annum pro rata, depending on experience. This competitive package includes unsocial hours payments where applicable, 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata), access to a generous pension scheme, and a range of NHS discounts through our comprehensive Staff Health and Wellbeing programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a GP in our UTC, you will provide triage services, complete consultations with assessment, treatment and management of patients of all ages presenting with primary care problems. You’ll record full clinical notes using UTC IT systems, complete coding requirements, and manage all administrative work relating to consultations.
Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration
You will work as part of our wider clinical team, supporting Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants, fellow GP colleagues, and training doctors. This collaborative environment allows for continuous professional development and skill enhancement.
Patient Management and Referrals
Your role will involve managing referrals of UTC patients to acute specialties, A&E, or community services when required. You’ll also support the redirection of patients to their registered GP when appropriate and provide education on appropriate use of NHS services.
Prescribing and Medication Management
Essential Qualifications RequiredCandidates must possess GMC registration as a General Practitioner or be within 6 months of CCT completion. An MBChB qualification and inclusion on a PCT Medical Performance List are also essential requirements for this position.
Essential Experience and Skills
We seek candidates with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, experience working as a General Practitioner, willingness to provide mentoring and support to other clinicians, and case management experience. Knowledge of clinical quality assurance methods and evidence-based practice is crucial.
