We are seeking a General Practitioner to cover a long-term maternity post at Dixton Surgery, commencing at the beginning of March 2026 for a duration of 12 months. This is a part-time position requiring 4 sessions per week, scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The role offers flexible working arrangements to accommodate your professional needs.

Location and Practice Details

Dixton Surgery is a busy dispensing practice situated on the edge of Monmouth, Gwent. We serve a unique border practice with patients and secondary care providers in both Wales and England. Our rural practice covers a large area of beautiful north Monmouthshire countryside extending into Herefordshire and Gloucestershire along the River Wye.

Practice Demographics

Our practice serves a growing population of approximately 5,000 patients with an interesting demographic mix of town and country residents, young and elderly patients, and individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds. We are high QOF achievers and offer a wide selection of Local, Directed and Enhanced Services to meet our community’s healthcare needs.

Working Environment

The Practice shares clinical leadership and medical staffing with Monnow Vale Community Hospital, where we provide inpatient care for about five patients at a time. We also serve three large Care Homes and a large Forensic Psychiatric Hospital, providing unique learning opportunities for our medical staff. The Practice has four Clinical Partners and one Management Partner.

Primary Responsibilities

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must hold RCGP certification and be registered on the Welsh Performers List. These qualifications demonstrate your professional standing and eligibility to practice as a general practitioner in Wales.

Required Experience

Essential experience in primary care is required for this role. We are seeking candidates with proven clinical experience in general practice settings, ideally including experience with diverse patient populations and both urban and rural healthcare delivery models.
