Position Details
We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Learning Disabilities Service in Hillingdon. This is a full-time community position (10 Programmed Activities) where you will work alongside a Core Trainee, Higher Specialist Trainee, and fellow Consultant colleagues. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to take up an additional 1PA as an educational post through our excellent links with Brunel University.
Salary and Benefits Package
The position offers an attractive salary range of £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, plus London weighting of £2,162 per annum pro rata. Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist in our Learning Disability Service, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric services for adults with learning disabilities living in Hillingdon. Your responsibilities will include supporting and developing ongoing psychiatric input for community-based individuals, attending community team referrals and complex case reviews, and participating in clinical governance and management meetings.
Clinical Responsibilities
Your clinical caseload will include a diverse mix of clinic-based appointments, work in local residential providers, and day resources. You will also provide Consultant Psychiatric services for individuals with learning disabilities who may be admitted to Frays and Crane Ward, acute inpatient mental health wards at The Riverside Centre. This includes providing Responsible Clinician cover, attending weekly ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and preparing tribunal reports.
Collaboration and Leadership
You will lead collaboration with mainstream mental health services within the Borough and actively participate in shaping new services in response to recent and ongoing changes within the NHS. Essential Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice. You should be included on the GMC specialist register or have a CCT within 6 months of interview. Additional essential requirements include approval under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 (or within 3 months) and Approved Clinician status (or within 3 months of appointment).
Knowledge Requirements
Candidates must possess up-to-date knowledge in the management of adults with learning disabilities and demonstrate awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation. We are particularly interested in applicants who bring fresh perspectives and international experience to our team.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, we would welcome applications from candidates with MRCPsych or equivalent qualifications, inclusion on the GMC specialist register for learning disabilities, management training/qualifications, recognition by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as a specialist registrar trainer, or higher degrees in fields related to Psychiatry (LLM, MD, or PhD).

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of clinical skill, ability to work constructively in multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency systems, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and commitment to working with users, carers, and voluntary organizations. Disability-centered values, high standards of professionalism, and flexibility in changing environments are essential.
Additional Desirable Skills
We value established records of clinical leadership, ability as a clinical teacher, research and/or audit capabilities, specific treatment modality skills, computer literacy, skills in assessing and managing people with autism, and expertise in managing people with epilepsy.
