This is an established post within the Rehabilitation & High Support Directorate covering a 10-bedded male PICU. The job description is currently under review by the Royal College.

Location Details
The position is based at Tameside General Hospital, located at Walkerwood, Tameside General Hospital, Ashton-U-Lyne, OL6 9RW. The hospital serves the Ashton-u-lyne area and offers excellent transport links and facilities for staff.
Salary and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum pro rata. Qualifications
Applicants must have essential qualifications including MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment is required. In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice is desirable.
Essential Experience
The successful candidate will have extensive experience working in multidisciplinary teams at ST4-6 or consultant level, with excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Experience in PICU/Rehabilitation/Forensic Psychiatry is desirable.
Job Responsibilities
The Consultant Psychiatrist will take clinical responsibility for in-patients and lead the multi-disciplinary team. All patients are expected to be detained under The Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007). The role includes ensuring all necessary documentation is correct and up-to-date, providing adequate reports for Manager’s Appeals or Tribunals, and maintaining approval as an Approved Clinician and under Section 12 of The MHA 1983.
Clinical Duties
Regularly assess the clinical state of inpatients and be involved in psychological and/or family-based therapies depending on training and interests. Attend regular detailed Care Programme Approach meetings to review progress and set longer-term goals. Consult with family and carers within usual boundaries of confidentiality.
Management Responsibilities
Attend weekly Clinical Team Meetings and contribute to the multi-disciplinary review of patients. Supervise junior doctors with at least one hour each per week. Attend management and Clinical Governance meetings and contribute to the clinical governance of the unit.
Professional Development
Maintain good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD, keep medical knowledge up to date, and participate in the annual Personal Development Plan/Appraisal process. Contribute to teaching and CPD events locally.
On-call Commitments
Participate in the Tameside Hospital on-call rota. During on-call, you may be called upon to advise junior doctors or assess patients in the community, A&E departments, police stations etc. The Trust anticipates the on-call rota will merge between Tameside and Stepping Hill hospital soon.

Qualifications

Desirable: MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists; Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management; Additional clinical qualifications.

Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential: Excellence in working extensively in multidisciplinary teams; Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective; Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty; Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others; Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
Desirable: Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience; Experience in PICU/Rehabilitation/Forensic Psychiatry.
Academic and Lifelong Learning
Essential: Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training; Participated in continuous professional development; Participated in research or service evaluation; Able to use and appraise clinical evidence; Has actively participated in clinical audit.
Desirable: Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken; Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation; Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement; Has led clinical audits leading to service change.
