Main Duties and Responsibilities
Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT) Responsibilities
The postholder will provide psychiatric leadership to the NDT and supervise Band 7 nurses within the team, including a nurse prescriber whose work includes ADHD medication monitoring clinics. You will support the MDT in neurodevelopmental assessment of new referrals and offer consultation to colleagues and direct assessment where indicated.
Clinical Responsibilities
You will run one outpatient clinic per week for medication management and review of complex cases. With additional MDT resources, you will lead on developing the team to assess and manage young people with complex presentations including neurodevelopmental comorbidity and often high risk. The team has developed innovative models for assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Learning Disabilities Team Responsibilities
Within the LD team, you will provide psychiatric assessments and reviews, oversee pharmacological treatment, offer psychiatric consultation/review for other MDT clinicians, and support the team in risk assessment and management. You will participate in assessment of cases requiring psychiatric assessment due to complexity of mental health presentation or risk.
Service Development
We are looking for an energetic, innovative, and dedicated Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with creative ideas for service development. You will work with dynamic consultant colleagues and MDT clinicians to collaborate with paediatricians, schools, third-sector organizations, children’s services, and allied health professionals.
Team Innovation
The team has developed innovative models including an information sharing psychoeducation group for parents of children with ADHD, an initiating medication group, and close collaborative work with the third sector for supporting young people and families where a child has ASD or ADHD. The postholder will be required to support, maintain, and develop these initiatives.
Essential Qualifications
Primary Medical Degree, Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice, Section 12 MHA Approved, Approved Clinician status or willing to apply for approval. Must be on GMC Specialist Register or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date.
Essential Experience and Skills
Competence in psychopharmacology and non-medication therapeutic approaches. Experience and training in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders including cases with psychiatric comorbidity, complex presentations, and associated high risk. Knowledge of Clinical Governance/Care Quality, ability to participate in Medical Audit and Quality Improvement, and experience of teaching and supervision of junior staff and other disciplines.

Excellent communication and empathic skills with a range of different people, demonstrable leadership skills, experience of team working, sound organizational skills, ability to work on own initiative, ability to cope with considerable pressure and adapt to new demands, ability to balance competing demands and prioritize, cultural sensitivity and ability to work in multi-ethnic environment.
