This is a permanent position offering both full-time and flexible working arrangements. We are committed to enhancing the health of our local population by delivering consistently high standards of care and working closely with local authorities and key partners. Our three core values – care, appreciate and inspire – guide everything we do.
Location and Working Pattern
The position is based at Salford Royal Hospital, with the option of a primary base at either Salford or Oldham depending on candidate preference. The hospital is easily accessible with excellent transport links.
We offer flexible working arrangements including full-time, part-time, job share, compressed hours, home or remote working options. This flexibility allows our medical professionals to achieve a better work-life balance while delivering high-quality patient care.
Salary and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, based on experience and qualifications. This is in line with national consultant pay scales for the NHS.
In addition to the generous salary package, we offer an excellent benefits package including a fantastic annual leave allowance, flexible working opportunities, protected hours for health and wellbeing activities, and opportunities for professional development.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a radiologist with a particular interest in Paediatric imaging. While interest in intervention is welcome, it is not essential for this position. The candidate will have a primary base at either Salford or Oldham, depending on preference and any second sub-specialty interests.
The role includes contributing to the general diagnostic work of the department, including on-call duties at one of the two sites. Both on-call rotas are low frequency and rely on overnight outsourcing. Consultants are expected to provide prospective cover for annual and study leave.
The post holder will work closely with other consultants and members of the wider multi-disciplinary team to support and develop services. The Diagnostics and Pharmacy Group across NCA is undergoing an exciting transformation into one structure with shared governance.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold a primary medical qualification (e.g. MBChB) and either FRCR or evidence of equivalent training and experience. These qualifications are essential for registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and for practicing as a radiologist in the UK.
Full registration with the GMC with a valid license to practice is required, or evidence of eligibility to apply for registration and license. Additionally, candidates must be on the specialist register for Radiology or within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, a postgraduate degree such as MRCP or FRCR would be advantageous. These qualifications demonstrate additional expertise and commitment to professional development.
All consultants are required to be trained as GMC recognised clinical supervisors and educational supervisors. Applicants without these qualifications will be required to obtain Clinical Supervisor (CS) certification within 6 months of joining the trust and Educational Supervisor (ES) certification within 12 months of joining.
Professional Registration
Applicants must have current UK professional registration. For international candidates, this involves obtaining GMC registration before commencing employment. The GMC registration process typically requires verification of primary medical qualification and postgraduate training.
The process for overseas doctors involves submitting credentials to the GMC for assessment, which may include an examination if the qualifications were obtained outside the UK or EEA. The trust will provide support with this process as part of the sponsorship application.
Experience Requirements
Candidates should have wide experience in Radiology, with sub-specialty skills appropriate to the post. This experience should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy hospital environment.
A good understanding of Clinical Governance is essential, along with evidence of audit work and how this has brought about improvements in practice. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate a positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team.
Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have proven ability to build and maintain effective teams, with excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. Strong clinical decision-making abilities and a commitment to delivering high-quality care are essential.
Applicants must have a private residence within 30 minutes or ten miles of their principal place of work, ensuring they can respond promptly to on-call requirements when necessary.
Certificate of Sponsorship
Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is able to offer a certificate of sponsorship to eligible international candidates. This sponsorship is for a Skilled Worker visa, which allows candidates to work in the UK for the duration of their employment contract.
To be eligible for sponsorship, candidates must meet the UK Visas and Immigration requirements for a Skilled Worker visa, including English language proficiency and appropriate qualifications. From 6 April 2017, skilled worker applicants must present criminal record certificates from each country they have resided in continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
