About the Role
This is a new post created to support our expanding oncology service and the semi-retirement plans of existing consultants. You will be joining a team of over twenty consultant oncologists working at the James Cook Cancer Institute, caring for patients across Teesside, North Yorkshire and County Durham.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Medical Oncologist, you will maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Medical Oncology. Your responsibilities will include undertaking any responsibilities related to your agreed special interests, covering for colleagues’ annual leave, providing professional supervision of junior medical staff, and actively participating in department management through monthly meetings.
Clinical Duties
Your clinical responsibilities will include attendance at weekly MDTs, clinics to see new patients, SACT review and follow-up patients, as well as clinical administration sessions for SACT prescribing and correspondence. You will be expected to work alongside enthusiastic, dynamic, research-active teams who have a track record of innovation and technical developments.
Professional Development
You will be required to take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all consultants), maintain active involvement in audit and quality improvement, participate in research activities, and demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Full GMC registration, MRCP or equivalent General Medical qualification, relevant CCT or equivalent, and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.
Essential Clinical Experience
General Oncology experience, site specialist training in breast, testis and renal malignancies, and evidence of clinical audit. Full GMC registration is essential.
Desirable Qualifications
Training in appraisal techniques and evidence of research or innovative service developments. Management training and evidence of management and administration experience are also desirable.

The James Cook Cancer Institute (JCCI) at the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) is a well-established centre for cancer care. The successful applicant will join existing breast, testis and renal teams and will be expected to work with the clinical research team to optimise trial recruitment.
