The successful candidate will join an established team of 13 occupational health professionals, including a full-time Advanced Mental Health Practitioner and full-time equivalent MSK Specialist Practitioner. You’ll be contributing to the health and wellbeing of approximately 13,000 clients across multiple NHS organizations.
About the Role
We are seeking a part-time Consultant in Occupational Medicine to join our team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is offered on a part-time basis of 3 Programmed Activities per week, with the scope for agile working or further discussion about the job plan requirements.
This substantive position presents an excellent opportunity to work supporting several NHS organizations, including The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester) and East Cheshire NHS Trust (Macclesfield). The successful candidate will contribute to the health and wellbeing of NHS staff and work closely with the Head of Occupational Health.
The appointee will be expected to work collaboratively with various teams, including Virology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Workforce Business Partners, and Staff Side Representatives. You’ll also assist in developing policies at local, regional, and national levels where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Occupational Medicine, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing occupational health services to MCHFT (Leighton, Crewe), East Cheshire NHS Trust (Macclesfield) and The Christies NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester)
- Supporting the Occupational Health function in outbreaks and infection control issues among staff
- Contributing to policy development in collaboration with various medical specialties
- Working closely with individual managers to address occupational health concerns
- Raising the profile and clinical standards of the occupational health service
The service meets the occupational health needs of approximately 13,000 clients and is predominately nurse-delivered. Each of the three NHS organizations has access to rapid access physiotherapy and Employee Assistance Programmes.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
- Full GMC Registration
- An appropriate higher Occupational Health qualification, e.g., Membership or Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine with accredited specialist status
Desirable Qualifications
- An appropriate higher Occupational Health qualification, e.g., Membership or Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine with accredited specialist status
Essential Experience
- Comprehensive clinical experience in Occupational Medicine
- Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good medical Practice set out by the GMC
- Clinical skills commensurate with the provision of an NHS Occupational Health Physician service
Desirable Experience
- Previous NHS Experience
- Experience in undertaking statutory medicals, i.e., radiation, lead, drivers, etc.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.
