The Evelina London Children’s Hospital is seeking to appoint an 8PA specialist consultant in Paediatric Neurodevelopmental disability working in the neurosciences department within the Newcomen Neurodevelopmental service. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical professional to join a multidisciplinary team serving the South East England region with complex neurodevelopmental disorders.

Location and Facilities
The position is based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, located on the St Thomas’ site in London. The hospital has close working links with state-of-the-art genetics, neurophysiology, neuro-radiology, and neurosurgery services across GSTT, Kings College Hospital, and Kings Health Partners.
Compensation and Benefits
This permanent position offers a competitive salary ranging from £99,532 to £131,964 per annum, pro rata depending on working pattern. The Trust is committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package and supportive working environment for all employees.
Working Hours and Schedule
The position is available on both full-time and part-time bases, with 8 programmed activities (PAs) available for full-time candidates. The Trust is committed to supporting flexible working patterns to accommodate the diverse needs of its staff while maintaining service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and input to tertiary neurodevelopmental clinics, including second opinions to paediatricians, leadership across the neurosciences service, and supporting regional/other districts in developing their services. You will provide paediatric opinions as part of a multidisciplinary team for children with various conditions including autistic disorder, ADHD, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural problems, and coexisting medical and genetic disorders.
Clinical Duties
You will conduct occasional Neurodisability consultations on in-patients under any team at ELCH. The post is less focused on physical disability, cerebral palsy, or epilepsy as there are existing services and consultant neurologist colleagues who focus on these areas. However, any relevant areas of interest or expertise will be welcomed. The post will also involve cross-cover across the neurodevelopment service, including other clinics such as behavioural feeding clinics.
About the Newcomen Neurodevelopmental Service
The Newcomen Neurodevelopmental Service is part of the Tertiary Neurosciences Department at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. It serves as a tertiary level service for children in the South East of England with severe complex neurodevelopmental disorders, often with associated physical, mental and neuropsychiatric problems.
Service Offerings
We currently offer a comprehensive range of services including multi-disciplinary neurodevelopmental assessment of children with autism and communication disorders; ADHD; intellectual disability; acquired neurological and genetic disorders; psychopharmacology interventions; behavioural intervention for children with challenging behaviour; educational intervention; a complex behavioural feeding service; services for children with motor disorders; a developmental epilepsy service; and a sleep service.
Professional Qualifications – Essential
Applicants must be eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice. You should have completed a minimum of 18 months higher specialist training in Neurodisability and hold MRCPCH by examination or equivalent. Valid APLS and NLS certifications, along with valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training and BLS Training are also required. Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
Professional Qualifications – Desirable
It would be advantageous to be on the GDC/GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability. A higher degree such as MSc, MD, or PhD in Paediatrics would also be considered beneficial for this position.
Clinical Experience Requirements
Essential experience includes working with children who have complex neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. Experience of clinical assessment at a tertiary level would be considered desirable for candidates applying for this specialist position.
Clinical Skills
You must be able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training. Familiarity with a wide range of tools used in assessment of children with autism and communication disorders is essential. Training in ADI, 3DI, or other similar assessment tools would be considered desirable.
Audit Management and IT Skills
A record of active involvement in clinical governance, audit, and management is essential for this role. You should demonstrate proficiency in using IT systems relevant to healthcare delivery and record-keeping in a clinical setting.
Research and Teaching Experience
Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff is essential. A track record of research, publications, understanding, or knowledge of Research ethics would be considered desirable for this position.
Leadership and Management Skills
Essential skills include clear communication in written and spoken English, ability to build rapport, listen, persuade, and negotiate. Strong interpersonal skills including empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience, and ability to work cooperatively with others are required. You must be adaptable, able to respond to changing circumstances, and cope with setbacks or pressure. The ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential.
