Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology to join our dynamic and ambitious team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This position offers an attractive recruitment and retention package of up to £15,000 for successful candidates. The role involves providing exceptional gynaecological oncology services to a population of 1.4 million across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire.
Service Description
The Gynaecological Oncology service is a secondary and tertiary cancer service operating from two district general hospitals. The team is primarily based at Cheltenham General Hospital, with outpatient clinics also held at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, Worcester Royal Hospital, and Hereford County Hospital. You will work alongside three subspecialty accredited Gynaecological Oncologists and one Consultant Gynaecologist who serves as the Cancer and Colposcopy Lead.
Working Environment
You will join a supportive team of four highly experienced Consultants with dedicated support staff, ensuring a collaborative and supportive working environment. The position offers opportunities to travel and run an independent practice, allowing you to enhance your skills and expertise. Our location alongside urology and colorectal services provides seamless access to elective care facilities.
Clinical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to share responsibility for delivering high-quality care in all clinical settings, including theatres, outpatient clinics, and wards. You will work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and support the clinical decision-making of resident medical and nursing staff. The role includes providing on-call support out of hours, attending the department as per agreed protocols.
Professional Development
You will participate in the training of a subspecialty trainee in Gynaecological Oncology and contribute to undergraduate teaching programmes from both the University of Bristol and the newly established Three Counties Medical School. Additionally, you will assist with developing postgraduate training for doctors in training and contribute to multidisciplinary skills training.
Management and Leadership
The position requires you to provide medical information for developing systems appropriate for Trust needs and participate in departmental consultant and senior staff meetings within the agreed strategy framework. You will attend departmental, divisional, and Trust meetings as necessary, as well as regional and national meetings when required.

Person Specification
Clinical Experience
Essential: Clinical training and experience in Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT; recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems; ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team; ability to lead emergency Gynaecology services in and out of hours.
Desirable: Experience in change management and innovation; experience in robotic surgery; experience in vulval disease including multidisciplinary working.
Research and Publications
Essential: Ability to appraise research critically and apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
Desirable: Publications in peer-reviewed journals; MD or equivalent qualification.

Essential: IT skills including word processing, Excel database management, and literature searching.
