Job Summary
Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a substantive Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry position covering outpatient services in Oldham. This newly created role provides an exciting opportunity to join our innovative mental health team in North West England.
Main Duties of the Job
Clinical Responsibilities
Consultants will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients in hospital and community settings. Services include diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing management of complex psychiatric conditions.
Outpatient clinics operate primarily at Cherrywood Clinic (Royal Oldham Hospital site) and Werneth Primary Care Centre. Travel between locations is required.
Teaching & Research
Active participation in medical and nursing education is essential. Responsibilities include clinical supervision, undergraduate teaching sessions, and involvement in research initiatives like Bright Mind, FreshSTART, and Gamechange projects.
Service Development
Opportunities exist to contribute to service innovation, particularly regarding Oldham’s new Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) suite – the only NHS-provided TMS service in the North West.
Consultants engage with service user and carer advocacy groups to ensure patient-centered care delivery across Central sector areas (Chadderton, Royton, Shaw, Delph, Uppermill, Lees, Ashton Under Lyne).

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Full GMC registration with practicing license
• GMC Specialist Register entry (or within 6 months)
• Approved Clinician status (achievable within 3 months)
• S12 approval (achievable within 3 months)
• Expert knowledge in adult psychiatry and complex psychological conditions
Desirable Qualifications
• Higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
• MRCPsych or equivalent specialist qualification
• Additional clinical certifications
• Unblemished GMC standing
• Extensive specialist experience in NHS or comparable services
Disclosure and Barring Service
This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. All convictions including spent convictions will be considered where relevant to the position.
Certificate of Sponsorship
