Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide specialist Otorhinolaryngology services with a focus on Rhinology, working alongside consultant colleagues. Main duties include direct clinical contact through outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and theatre activity. The role also involves administration, patient validation, research opportunities, and audit participation.

Clinical Excellence

Maintaining appropriate clinical competence through registration and continuous professional development is essential. The post holder will work closely with senior management colleagues, contributing to service improvement and departmental governance while teaching and mentoring junior staff.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice, MBBS or equivalent qualification. Alternatively, Portfolio Pathway (CESR) or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration are acceptable.

Additional Requirements

FRCS or qualification of equivalent level and valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills are mandatory. Broad-based experience in Otorhinolaryngology with specialist expertise in Rhinology (+/- Facial Plastic) is essential, along with knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent) and competence in Otorhinolaryngology.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, an appropriate Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent) and Rhinology (+/- Facial Plastic) fellowship abroad or in the UK are desirable. Experience within the NHS system and evidence of above-average performance are also advantageous.

Clinical Governance and Research

Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding the role of audit in improving medical practice is essential. Desirable attributes include knowledge of risk management and annual job planning/appraisal review process. Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence to improve clinical outcomes are required.

Teaching and Management Experience

Evidence of organizing programmes and teaching medical students and resident doctors is essential.
