We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Endocrinology and Acute Medicine to join our dedicated team of physicians at Central Middlesex Hospital and Northwick Park Hospitals. Job Details
This post is offered as a 70% Endocrinology & Diabetes and 30% Acute Medicine position. The successful candidate will undertake 4 clinics per week, with clinic commitments reduced when allocated to covering inpatient care. There is a standardised template for clinics in line with RCP guidelines. The post holder will attend MDTs either in person or virtually and contribute to the triaging of Endocrinology/Diabetes clinic referrals on the vantage system.
Location
The position is based at Central Middlesex Hospital, located in London with the postcode UB1 3HW. The hospital serves as our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and is collocated with an urgent care centre. The successful candidate will also contribute to care at Northwick Park Hospital site.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, in accordance with the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scale. This reflects the seniority and importance of the role within our trust.
Contract Type

Working Pattern
The position is full-time, requiring the post holder to work standard NHS consultant hours. The post holder will contribute to the acute on-call rota covering emergency admissions and ambulatory care, as well as provide specialty endocrinology input to the medical admissions unit and Emergency Department.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold MRCP or equivalent qualification. Additionally, candidates must have CESR/CCT in Endocrinology & GIM or be within 6 months from date of interview. These qualifications ensure that candidates have the necessary medical expertise and training to perform the duties of a consultant in this specialty.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, possession of a postgraduate qualification such as MD, PhD or FRCPath would be advantageous. These additional qualifications demonstrate a commitment to advanced knowledge and research in the field of endocrinology.
Essential Experience
Candidates must demonstrate appropriate experience and clinical expertise in endocrinology and acute medicine. Essential IT skills are also required to effectively manage patient records and utilize clinical systems. The post holder will supervise junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of endocrine disorders including benign thyroid disease, thyroid lumps, lipid disorders, calcium disorders, adrenal and pituitary disease. Knowledge of facilities for investigating endocrine diseases including MRI scanners, nuclear medicine scans, and genetic testing is essential.
Management Experience
Evidence of clinical leadership in the development of clinical services is required. Additionally, candidates must show evidence of engagement with audit/quality improvement projects. This ensures the post holder can contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
Teaching Requirements
Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate teaching is essential. The post holder will be involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors as part of their role. A formal teaching qualification is desirable but not required.
Personal Skills
Candidates must possess the ability to work well in a team with good interpersonal skills. The ability to work well under pressure is essential given the nature of acute medicine. These personal skills are vital for effective collaboration and maintaining high standards of patient care in challenging situations.
About the Trust
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is a major teaching trust that provides services across four main sites: Northwick Park Hospital with one of the busiest emergency departments in the country, St Mark’s Hospital as an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease, Ealing Hospital providing a range of clinical services, and Central Middlesex Hospital as our planned care site.
Diabetes & Endocrinology Services
We provide a full range of diabetes services including transitional clinics, young adult clinics, diabetes management, and insulin pump clinics. Each site offers specialist multidisciplinary foot services supported by dedicated podiatrists. There is close liaison with vascular surgeons and a trust-wide Foot MDT held weekly. Antenatal clinics are delivered at both Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospital sites.
Main Duties
The post holder will contribute to the ongoing care of general medicine patients at Northwick Park Hospital site on a rota basis and provide specialty endocrinology input to the medical admissions unit and Emergency Department. They will contribute to the acute on-call rota covering emergency admissions and ambulatory care, supervise junior doctors, and undertake undergraduate teaching as part of their responsibilities.
