Position Details
This permanent, full-time Consultant position offers an attractive salary range of £109,725 to £145,478 per annum. The role is based within the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scheme at Consultant grade. The position requires 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and offers exceptional flexibility in working patterns.
Location Flexibility
Successful candidates will enjoy the flexibility to base their role in either Bristol or Exeter, with clinics predominantly based in Bristol. This arrangement allows you to choose between vibrant academic city living or the beautiful rural and coastal locations that the South West region offers.
Role Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Clinical Genetics, you will play a crucial role in our collaborative, region-wide service at this transformative stage. With main hubs in Bristol and Exeter and clinics delivered across the region, our service is underpinned by nationally and internationally renowned genomics laboratories, strong academic partnerships, and high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
Service Objectives
We aim to provide high-quality, equitable care to a population of over 4.4 million people living across the South West peninsula. You will contribute to a service built on innovation, research excellence, and supportive multidisciplinary collaboration, regardless of whether your interests lie in paediatric, prenatal, cardiac, cancer genetics, or other sub-specialty areas of rare disease.

You will join an exceptional team working together to help our patients stay healthy when they need it most. The service benefits from a team of experienced genetic counsellors, genomic practitioners, family history coordinators, and skilled administrative staff. Our integrated digital systems (Epic and PhenoTips) ensure seamless, data-informed care delivery.
Research Opportunities
This position offers outstanding research opportunities through the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre and direct collaboration with the South West Genomics Laboratory Hub, which includes England’s national rapid whole genome sequencing service for acutely unwell children.
