Department Overview

The adult Haematology department comprises 19 haematology consultants who work across both Bristol and Weston Hospitals, primarily based at the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC). Our unit offers tertiary level services for stem cell transplants, CAR T cell therapy, Haemostasis and Haemophilia, haemato-oncology, and haemoglobinopathy. We maintain a strong emphasis on research, with the BHOC trials unit actively recruiting participants for over 100 clinical trials. The department maintains close collaborative links with both the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England, providing exceptional academic and research opportunities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

This is a full-time (10 Programmed Activities) substantive Consultant post in Haematology based at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. The position is ideally suited to candidates who already possess or wish to develop a specialist interest in Myeloid disorders and Laboratory Haematology. The successful candidate will work across both Bristol and Weston sites, spending one day per week at Weston Hospital when not attending in Bristol. The role includes Haematology Ward and Haematology Laboratory attending responsibilities, along with a 1 in 8 out-of-hours on-call rotation. A separate consultant on-call rota exists for Haemostasis services.

Clinical Responsibilities

The post-holder will participate in up to three clinics per week when not engaged in ward attending duties. All clinics will maintain a myeloid focus, with one session per week conducted at Weston Hospital and one every fortnight dedicated to more general Haematology cases. Ward attending responsibilities follow a 1 in 8 basis, while Laboratory attending occurs on a 1 in 5 basis. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to an email advice and guidance service for General Practitioners within the UHBW catchment area, providing expert consultation and support to primary care colleagues.

Salary and Benefits Package

The position offers a competitive salary range of £109,725 to £145,478 per annum pro rata, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
