Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Geriatrician with Specialist Interest in Acute Frailty Care and Clinical Lecturer to join our Department of Medicine for Older People. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified medical professionals to develop innovative 7-day services for older people, both within hospitals and the community.

You will have sessional work supporting acute frailty services in emergency areas, with the job plan developing as the service evolves, supported by the senior leadership team. The post holder will also conduct sessional work on general geriatric wards and re-ablement wards, working alongside other Geriatrics consultants to deliver comprehensive geriatric assessment to patients requiring inpatient care.

The in-patient wards comprise 14-28 beds with on average 2-4 new admissions each day. This post will be supported by trainees, junior doctors, and Advanced Nurse Practitioners at the Broadgreen and Royal Liverpool sites, with additional Specialty Trainee (STR) support on a sessional basis.

Sample Timetable

Your weekly schedule will include a balanced mix of clinical and teaching responsibilities. The elements will remain consistent, though specific days may vary depending on service needs. You will typically spend mornings on ward-based activities including MDT meetings, ward rounds, and frailty inreach services.

Afternoons will be dedicated to protected time for teaching activities, administration work, and educational supervision. The role includes 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions, 2.5 sessions for protected teaching time (SPA), and 0.66 sessions for on-call duties.

Person Specification: Qualifications

Essential: MB ChB or equivalent medical degree, and MRCP (or equivalent). Full registration with the GMC and licence to practice. On GMC specialist register for Geriatric and General Medicine or eligible for specialist register.

Essential: CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent training) or 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview.

This is a permanent, full-time position offering a salary between £109,725 to £145,478 per annum plus on-call commitment at 0.66 p.a and 3%.
