We are seeking a highly motivated Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in Eating Disorders to join our established Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Exeter. Location and Working Environment
The position is based at Evergreen, Victoria Park Road, Exeter, EX2 4NU. You’ll be joining a CQC-rated Good service with a strong, established workforce of 15 Child Psychiatrists across Devon and Torbay. Our progressive CAMHS is part of Children and Family Health Devon, an integrated service delivering health, social, and education support to children and young people throughout the region.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per year, paid according to the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scheme. This reflects the seniority and responsibility of the Consultant role within our organization. Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must hold Full Registration with the General Medical Council, be eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview, hold or be able to achieve Approved Clinician status within 3 months of appointment, and be Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983. Additionally, you must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers, with awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, qualifications such as MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists are highly desirable. We also welcome applicants with higher degrees in medical education, clinical research, or management, as well as evidence of sub-speciality training in areas such as systemic therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy. CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is also considered advantageous.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have prior experience working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team, with demonstrated experience of psychiatric practice in various settings, especially community-based services. You should also have experience of audit and a clear understanding of the principles of clinical governance. The ability to interpret published research and apply research findings to clinical practice is essential for this role.
Desirable Experience
We particularly value candidates with a wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable services. Clinical experience in diverse settings within Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is highly regarded, as is experience in related specialities such as psychotherapy or paediatrics. Experience in other related specialities, such as psychotherapy or paediatrics, would also be beneficial.
Main Responsibilities
As a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with special interest in Eating Disorders (8PAs), you will provide medical leadership in your area of expertise while working within a multidisciplinary team. The role offers opportunities to develop and pursue your special interest in Eating Disorders while working in a generic community CAMH service. You will have opportunities to provide medical leadership in an area of expertise, with mentoring support available for newly qualified consultants.
