Job Overview
NELFT North East London Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Community Consultant Paediatrician & Named Doctor for Safeguarding to join our Havering Specialist Children Service based at the Acorn Centre in Romford. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified medical professional to make a significant impact on child health and safeguarding within our community. The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
As a Community Consultant Paediatrician & Named Doctor for Safeguarding, you will work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing comprehensive care to babies, children and young people across Havering. Your role will involve providing senior medical support and guidance to the team while working directly with patients and their families. You will be expected to liaise appropriately with other external health providers and acute hospitals to ensure coordinated care.
Core Duties
Your responsibilities will include participating in the local Child Protection rota, supporting peers and team leaders, and being an effective team member. You will work alongside 4.2wte Consultant Paediatricians, 0.5wte Specialty Doctors, 1wte Senior Trainee, and 0.2wte GPvTS doctor within the service. Commitment to collaborative working is essential, including active support and liaison with other health and social professionals and agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements
Candidates must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and possess CCT or equivalent qualifications. You must be included in, or eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of obtaining CCST. At least 2 years’ experience in Community Child Health is essential, along with a proactive approach to safeguarding responsibilities.
Location and Working Pattern
This full-time, substantive position is based at the Acorn Centre, 306 London Road, Romford, RM7 9NH. The working pattern consists of 10 Programmed Activities (DCC:SPA = 7.5:2.5) with no on-call duties required. The Acorn Centre provides modern facilities and a supportive working environment for our healthcare professionals.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
As the Named Doctor for Safeguarding, you will play a crucial role in protecting vulnerable children and young people. This includes participating in child protection procedures, providing expert medical advice to safeguarding teams, and contributing to the development of policies and practices that promote child welfare and safety.
