Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Psychologist, you will be accountable for your own professional practice in delivering specialist care to clients with complex emotional or mental health needs. You will provide psychological assessment and formulation of clients with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of data from various sources. The role includes providing clinical supervision and training to colleagues within the psychology service and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Clinical Duties
You will be expected to be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families. The position includes the opportunity to undertake formal research or service evaluations and, where suitably trained, act as a field supervisor for doctorate clinical psychology trainees. You will be proactive in continual service improvement and promote a positive image of people with mental health difficulties.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical/counselling/forensic psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) or its equivalent prior to 1996. You must be registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Additionally, evidence of continuing professional development is required.
Essential Experience
You must have experience working as an applied psychologist within a designated service, including a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity. Experience in exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care as a care coordinator and leader of a multidisciplinary team is essential. You should also have experience in teaching, training, clinical supervision, and field supervision for doctoral theses.
Research and Service Development
Experience in research and development, as well as active participation in quality and service improvement initiatives, is required. You should demonstrate experience in liaison and joint working with statutory, voluntary, and private sector agencies.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential knowledge includes evidence-based practice relevant to the role, risk assessment and management, clinical governance, and knowledge of legislation and national agenda in relation to mental health services. You should be skilled in complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention.
Communication and Teamwork
Excellent communication skills are required to convey highly complex and sensitive information effectively to a wide range of people both within and outside the NHS. You must be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake lead practitioner responsibilities.

You must be able to travel independently in accordance with Trust policies and service need. This post is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. You should have current UK professional registration or be eligible for it.
