About the Community Rehabilitation Service

The Community Rehabilitation Service is a multi-disciplinary therapy team providing assessment and rehabilitation in a community setting for those with a range of progressive or acquired neurological conditions. The work is community-based and requires the ability to travel efficiently throughout the boroughs of Havering and Barking and Dagenham. The team operates from two sites: Yew Tree Resource Centre, Romford, RM7 9AA and Porters Avenue Health Centre, RM8 2EQ.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients with stroke and neurological conditions, taking into consideration the patient’s physical, cognitive, and perceptual skills to identify abilities and areas of difficulty. You will take a lead role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants through supervision, training, and appraisal.

Quality Care and Collaboration

You will achieve and maintain quality care through the delivery of evidence-based practice and adherence with national guidance. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team across the Stroke and Neurology pathway, you will liaise with and support therapy colleagues in the community as needed. The service has strong working relationships between inpatient and community staff, enabling joint in-service training and journal club activities.

Professional Development

There is a well-established appraisal system and a commitment to supporting staff to develop leadership and clinical skills through regular supervision, a structured neurology in-service training programme, and internal and external training opportunities. The service works closely with colleagues across the Stroke and Neurology pathway, including our Stroke Unit at Meadow Court, Goodmayes, and specialist nurses in PD, MND and MS.

Benefits Package

This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941 per annum, pro rata for part-time). All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation.
