Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per year (pro rata), along with additional benefits including:
- Recruitment and retention premium up to £20,000 including an initial welcome bonus
- Relocation allowance and support up to £8,000
- Negotiable job plans up to a maximum of 12 PAs

Role Summary
Acute Medicine is an exciting and essential pillar of urgent care at UHBW. We have ambitious plans to grow the service at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). Key milestones include the expansion and development of our Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and optimization of clinical pathways.
Responsibilities
As an Acute Medicine Consultant, you will have a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of our service. You will join an enthusiastic, collaborative multi-disciplinary team committed to driving forward the Trust vision for Acute Medicine, delivering an exemplary service. This is an exciting time as we have recently announced the ‘Joint Clinical Strategy’ which will enable greater collaboration with North Bristol Trust to provide sustainable and equitable acute care for patients across the region.
Service Overview
Our service is comprised of a 39-bedded Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, and the management of the Medical Take. Acute Medicine is within the Division of Medicine, working closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Visa and Sponsorship Information
UHBW welcomes applications from international candidates requiring sponsorship. We can provide a Certificate of Sponsorship for eligible candidates through the UK’s Skilled Worker visa route. Applicants must have current UK professional registration and be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for sponsorship, candidates must:
- Be fully registered with the GMC or be eligible for registration
- Have completed specialist training (CCT) or equivalent, or be within 6 months of gaining CCT
- Be on the GMC’s Specialist Register for the relevant specialty
- Meet the English language requirements
- Pass the required criminal record checks

Essential Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Acute Medicine. You should be able to take responsibility for delivering services without direct supervision and have up-to-date knowledge and experience relevant to the specialty.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements other consultants in the department and aligns with the Trust’s service strategy would be advantageous. Higher academic qualifications such as MD, PhD, or equivalent are also desirable.
