Position Overview
The Headmaster/Mistress position is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall strategic direction, educational philosophy, and administrative operations of Collingwood School. This full-time, permanent position reports directly to the Board of Directors and will commence on May 5, 2026.

Compensation
The salary for this position is competitive and ranges from $326,000 to $415,000 annually, negotiable based on qualifications and experience. This compensation package reflects the seniority and importance of the role within the school community.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position requiring 40-45 hours per week. The schedule will include regular school hours, evening and weekend events, and additional time required for administrative duties, meetings, and school functions.
Qualifications & Experience
Education Requirements
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field. A doctoral degree is preferred. Additional qualifications in educational administration, curriculum development, and leadership are highly desirable.
Professional Experience
The ideal candidate will have at least 10-15 years of progressive experience in education, with at least 5-7 years in a senior leadership position. Experience as a Head of School, Principal, or equivalent senior administrative role is required. Experience in independent or private school settings is highly valued.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Additional language skills, particularly French, would be considered an asset given Canada’s bilingual nature and the diverse student population at Collingwood School.

Leadership & Vision
The Headmaster/Mistress will provide strategic leadership and vision for the school, developing and implementing a clear educational philosophy that aligns with the school’s mission and values. This includes setting academic standards, fostering innovation in teaching methodologies, and ensuring the delivery of an exceptional educational experience.
Financial Management
Overseeing the school’s financial operations, including budget development, financial planning, resource allocation, and ensuring fiscal responsibility. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the finance committee and board to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the institution.
Faculty Development
Recruiting, mentoring, and retaining high-quality teaching staff. The Headmaster/Mistress will foster a professional growth culture, providing opportunities for professional development, implementing evaluation systems, and creating a supportive work environment that attracts and retains exceptional educators.
Student Welfare
Ensuring the well-being and safety of all students, developing policies and programs that support student success, and creating an inclusive learning environment that addresses the diverse needs of the student body.
Community Relations
Building and maintaining positive relationships with parents, students, staff, alumni, and the broader community. The Headmaster/Mistress will serve as the primary ambassador for the school, representing its values and achievements to various stakeholders.
