Job Summary

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Associate Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist to join their team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This is a band 4 position working 30 hours per week (0.8 WTE) on a permanent, part-time basis. The successful candidate will join a friendly multidisciplinary team and will be expected to participate in the night shift rota, overseeing patients attending for sleep studies.

About the Role

The post holder will help deliver respiratory physiology testing within the Children’s Hospital alongside the Lead Physiologists and Associate Physiologists, as well as providing a high-quality sleep study service. It is essential that the successful applicant has an awareness of lung function testing, as well as a good science background, preferably with a BSc in a relevant subject. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills are also required.

Responsibilities

We are looking for individuals with energy and enthusiasm who are committed to providing a high-quality service. Previous experience in respiratory or sleep physiology investigations would be beneficial, however full training will be provided. You must be highly motivated, with an ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. You will have effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to adapt to a busy and varied workload.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting an efficient and high-quality service in Paediatric Respiratory Physiology and Sleep Medicine
  • Supporting the provision of the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology service for UHBW
  • Undertaking lung function investigations on inpatients and outpatients (spirometry, FeNO, nasal NO and bronchodilator response assessments)
  • Facilitating sleep study investigations for inpatients and home sleep studies
  • Maintaining equipment to ensure it is functioning to agreed standards and specifications
  • Training in basic analysis and reporting of sleep studies

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience of working with the general public, including patients/relatives in sensitive situations
  • Use of computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment in the NHS

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of performing spirometry
  • Experience of performing sleep studies
  • Experience of working with children

Qualifications and Training
