About Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT) is a large, multi-site Trust with a very busy acute medical and surgical intake. We proudly serve as the vascular hub for Gloucestershire and Swindon, providing comprehensive interventional radiology services to upper and lower GI surgery (with HPB links with Birmingham), Urology, and Oncology interventions. Our commitment to excellence includes maintaining a 24/7 IR on-call service to support all these critical functions.
Our Vision for Interventional Radiology
The Trust has strategically prioritized interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, and vascular surgery as key components of our modern ‘fit for the future’ trust development plan. We are centralizing acute and complex services at our Gloucester site while establishing a center of excellence for elective services in Cheltenham. This expansion includes a state-of-the-art Siemens Artis Q IR suite in our Image Guided Surgery ‘Spoke’ at Cheltenham, complete with 6 day-case beds, designed to meet the growing demands of our patient population.
Our Facilities and Equipment
Our complex and acute interventional radiology work is based at Gloucester Royal Hospital, delivered from a new Image Guided Surgery Hub featuring 3 cardiac catheter labs, 2 interventional radiology labs, and a shared 16-bed day-case unit. Additionally, we are constructing a new hybrid theater within our main theatres to further enhance our capabilities. These significant investments reflect our commitment to providing cutting-edge care and creating an exceptional working environment for our medical staff.
