Position Details
This is a seasonal, full-time position requiring 35 to 60 hours per week. The position begins on December 8, 2025, with one vacancy available. The work location is on-site, requiring travel to various points around Yellowknife and the surrounding areas to show tourists the best Aurora viewing spots.
Compensation and Schedule
Our tour guides are compensated at a rate of $20.00 per hour. The schedule is flexible and may vary based on weather conditions, Aurora forecasts, and tourist demand. Expect to work during evenings, nights, weekends, and be available for on-call shifts when the Aurora activity is predicted to be particularly strong.
Responsibilities
As a tour guide, you will be responsible for leading groups of tourists to optimal Aurora viewing locations, providing information about the Northern Lights, local wildlife, Indigenous cultures, and northern geography. You’ll need to ensure guest safety, manage tour logistics, and create memorable experiences for visitors from around the globe.
Required Experience
Successful candidates should have experience in sightseeing tours, bus tours, and/or walking tours. Having led 10 or more tours is preferred. Experience working in Canada’s tourism industry is advantageous. Knowledge of photography, particularly night photography and Aurora photography techniques, is highly valuable as many tourists seek guidance on capturing the Northern Lights on camera.
Preferred Qualifications
While formal education requirements are not specified, candidates with backgrounds in tourism, hospitality, environmental studies, Indigenous studies, or photography are encouraged to apply. First aid certification and experience in cold weather environments are beneficial.
