Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a valid Class 1 or Class A driver’s license, which is the standard requirement for operating commercial vehicles in Canada. In addition to your license, you must have an Air Brakes Endorsement, demonstrating your specialized training and qualification to operate vehicles equipped with air brake systems.
We require candidates with proven experience in operating straight trucks (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles) and tractor-trailers. Specifically, we are looking for drivers with extensive long-haul experience who are comfortable spending extended periods on the road and navigating various highway conditions across different provinces.
Key Responsibilities
As a Long Haul Truck Driver with Ventona Transport Ltd, you will be responsible for transporting goods and materials across Canada using straight or articulated trucks. You’ll operate your vehicle safely and efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries while adhering to all transportation regulations and company policies.
Professionalism in customer service is a core aspect of this role. You’ll serve as the face of our company when interacting with clients at pickup and delivery locations. This includes maintaining positive relationships, addressing any concerns professionally, and representing Ventona Transport Ltd with the highest standards of courtesy and respect.
You will often drive as part of a two-person team or convoy, especially for long-distance routes requiring extended driving hours. This teamwork approach enhances safety, provides companionship during long hauls, and allows for more efficient loading and unloading operations at various locations.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety
A critical part of your responsibilities will be overseeing the condition of your vehicle. You’ll conduct regular inspections of tires, lights, brakes, cold storage equipment, and other essential components to ensure everything is functioning properly. This proactive approach to maintenance helps prevent breakdowns and ensures the safety of yourself and others on the road.
You’ll be trained and qualified to perform brake adjustments when necessary, addressing minor mechanical issues during your journey. This capability helps maintain vehicle performance and safety standards while minimizing downtime for repairs at service centers.
Proper tarping of cargo is another essential responsibility. You’ll ensure that all loads are securely covered and protected from weather elements during transit. This attention to detail helps prevent damage to goods and maintains the professional appearance of our vehicles and cargo.
Documentation and Communication
You’ll be responsible for accurately recording all cargo information, including details about the type, quantity, and destination of the goods transported. This documentation ensures proper tracking and accountability throughout the supply chain process.
Hours of service tracking is a regulatory requirement in the Canadian trucking industry. You’ll maintain detailed records of your driving hours, rest periods, and off-duty time to comply with federal regulations that ensure driver safety and prevent fatigue-related accidents.
Distance traveled and fuel consumption data must be recorded for each trip. This information helps our company optimize routing, improve fuel efficiency, and maintain accurate cost accounting for our transportation services. Your attention to detail in these records contributes to our operational efficiency.
As a vital link in our communication chain, you’ll receive and relay information to central dispatch. This includes providing updates on your location, estimated arrival times, any delays encountered, and information about loading or unloading situations. Effective communication ensures smooth operations and timely deliveries.
