Key Responsibilities
Your role will involve providing perioperative TOE services, evidence-based care, and working clinically in cardiothoracic critical care. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues and cover on-call across cardiothoracic theatres, cardiac critical care, and cardiology intervention services. Ideally, you should live within 10 miles of Basildon Hospital or within 30 minutes traveling time.
Qualifications
Essential:
- GMC registration
- Training in both general and cardiothoracic critical care, ALS or ATLS (at least Intermediate level as per RCOA curriculum)
- A minimum of one year of continuous experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and Intensive Care equivalent to advanced level training
Desirable:
- On Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview
- Training and qualifications in other medical specialty (e.g., FICM, MRCP, MRCS, FRCS)
- Membership of a national specialty organization (e.g., ACTA)
- Accreditation in perioperative TOE
- ITU experience

We are seeking GMC registered candidates with FRCA (or equivalent) and specialist registration (or within 6 months of CCT). You should have experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care, with commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork, teaching, and research. Enthusiasm for service development and innovation is essential, while a keen interest in thoracic anaesthesia is highly desirable for this substantive post.
