About This Opportunity

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our dedicated team for a 9-month fixed-term contract. This represents an excellent opportunity for international medical professionals to work within the UK’s National Health Service while developing their expertise in acute medicine.

Role Overview

We are looking for a 9-month fixed term Consultant to join a team of 13 existing Acute Physicians in the Acute Medicine Directorate at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD). You will support the further development of our consultant-led acute assessment, early discharge and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, making a significant impact on patient care outcomes.

Working Environment

UHD has Acute Medical Units (AMU) on both the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) site and the Poole Hospital site. Medical takes will continue on each site over the next 18 months to 2 years as the organisation works towards delivering on the Dorset Clinical Services Review and aligning all Emergency work at the Major Emergency Hospital on the current RBH site.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Emergency Department consultants, the medical specialties and the AMU staff on each hospital site to deliver optimum patient care and ensure we remain at the forefront of Acute Medicine. Key Responsibilities

Applicants are expected to have a broad experience in medicine, to be able to manage appropriate patients in an Ambulatory Emergency Care setting and to support colleagues to manage their patients in a similar way. There will be the opportunity to develop an area of special interest in line with existing services within the department.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with GMC
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within 6 months of CCT in Acute (Internal) Medicine or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in Acute Medicine

Essential Experience

  • Experience in General Medicine

Essential Skills

Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical skills, the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and excellent communication abilities. You should be capable of making sound clinical decisions and managing complex acute medical cases.
