Powys Teaching Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Deputy Ward Manager/Nurse Assessor to join their adult mental health team at Felindre Unit, Bronllys Community Hospital. About the Role

The successful candidate will work as a senior member of the Inpatient Mental Health Team, responsible for care coordination and assessment of health and social needs for service users experiencing severe mental health difficulties. You will work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary services including nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

As a Deputy Ward Manager/Nurse Assessor, you will be responsible for completing CTP assessments for patients requiring out-of-hours assessment, including risk assessments and care planning. The role involves supervising junior staff, completing staff appraisals, acting as a preceptor and mentor, and assuming line management responsibilities in the absence of the ward manager.

Salary and Benefits

This permanent position is offered at Band 6 on the Agenda for Change pay scale, with a salary ranging from £39,263 to £47,280 per annum (pro rata for part-time). The role is available on a full-time, part-time, or flexible working pattern basis, allowing candidates to find a work arrangement that suits their lifestyle.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with a degree level qualification or working towards one. The role requires knowledge and experience of WARRN risk assessing and assessments. Nurse prescribing qualification or willingness to complete this training is also essential, along with training in CBT in Psychosis/DBT.

Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, having ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification and experience in group work and personal reviewing would be advantageous. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post, though English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential Experience

Candidates must have significant experience at Band 5 level, with evidence of supervising and developing junior staff, as well as team leadership experience. The role requires evidence of leading change or new initiatives, clinical supervision experience, evidence of clinical audits, and experience in CTP/risk assessment/formulation/planning and implementing assessments.

The successful candidate will need effective skills and knowledge of psychosocial interventions including CBT, principles of recovery within a mental health setting, and knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983. You should demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development and understand clinical governance principles.
