Contract Details

Working Pattern
The role is offered on a full-time basis, working approximately 40 hours per week. The Acute Medicine Team is responsible for the Medical Intake 8am – 5pm throughout the week, with support from the General Internal Medicine (GIM) Rota in the evenings and at weekends. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Acute Medical Out of Hours Cover as part of their role, providing comprehensive care to patients across various settings.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must hold full GMC (General Medical Council) registration, which is a mandatory requirement for practicing medicine in the UK. Additionally, candidates must have relevant and recent experience at senior trainee level with general internal medicine. Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, candidates who have satisfactorily completed a recognised training programme at SpR (Specialist Registrar) or equivalent level will be at an advantage. Other desirable qualifications include specialist registration for General Internal Medicine, further higher degrees, and published papers within the last three years. Membership of the Society of Acute Medicine is also considered desirable.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing senior leadership and management, working alongside trainees and other healthcare professionals. Key responsibilities include providing a consultant service for outpatients and inpatients, taking part in Acute Medical Out of Hours Cover, participating in departmental meetings and audit activities, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. The candidate will also be expected to develop strong working links with Primary Care and play a prominent role in undergraduate education.
About the Acute Medicine Department
Acute Medicine in Wrexham is undergoing exciting developments. The department currently has six substantive acute physicians and two long-term locums, with subspecialty interests in Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology, and Clinical Pharmacology. The team is responsible for medical intake 8am-5pm weekdays, supported by the GIM Rota during evenings and weekends. There is a strong focus on Ambulatory Care, with two Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and a Clinical Hub Nurse in place to support service delivery, with plans to expand the ANP team.
