Emergency Department at Medway
The Emergency Department at Medway has a strong reputation for education and simulation, for all staff. Our focus on high quality development has been reflected in our recent CQC report and HE Deanery Quality Visit. We are progressive with diversification of workforce, compassionate leadership and flexible working conditions to aid recruitment and retention.
Clinical Services
We are a major acute centre and designated Trauma Unit, with additional services on site. There is a large Critical Care department, a Tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the regional Urological Cancer Centre. These facilities provide an excellent environment for emergency medicine professionals to develop their skills and knowledge.
Teaching and Training
The consultant will supervise and train the junior and middle grade doctors in emergency medicine, Physician Associates (PA), Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) and the Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP). We have a strong commitment to education and development for all staff at all levels.
Specialist Opportunities
Dual accreditation is welcomed, for example, Paediatric EM or ICU. Pre-hospital opportunities are being developed with our local partners for a planned Physician Response Unit. This provides additional career development opportunities beyond the traditional emergency department setting.
Person Specification – Qualifications
Essential qualifications include extensive experience in emergency medicine and related fields which would be appropriate to CESR requirements. Applicants must hold FRCEM or equivalent qualification, full GMC Registration with license to practice, and have specialist registration in Emergency Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT.
Person Specification – Experience
Essential experience includes appropriate training in Emergency Medicine, experience of teaching doctors in training and undergraduates, experience of clinical audit, and being a provider for ALS, APLS, ATLS (instructor status is desirable).
Person Specification – Skills
Essential skills include the ability to make decisions at consultant level, sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role of consultant, and the ability to inspire, lead and motivate others.
