Job Summary
We are seeking a Specialist Clinical Fellow to participate in elective and emergency surgery cases within colorectal and upper gastrointestinal firms at our busy district general hospital. The start date for this position is 1st December 2025.
This fixed-term, full-time position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in both laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The role aligns with UK training requirements and provides access to theatre lists, clinics, endoscopy, and ERCP procedures.
The successful candidate will join our dedicated surgical team at Frimley Park Hospital, where they will contribute to delivering high-quality patient care while advancing their surgical expertise in a supportive environment.
Main Duties of the Job
The Specialist Clinical Fellow will be expected to participate fully in the surgical program, including upper and lower gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery. The fellowship provides access to theatre lists, including laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
Additional training opportunities include endoscopy and ERCP, with the expectation that the fellow will actively participate in clinical sessions. The hospital operates an on-call emergency general surgery block, and the fellow will be expected to participate in a full elective and emergency rota.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold a medical degree (MB, BS or equivalent) and have completed ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) training. MRCS (Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons) or equivalent qualification is also essential for this position.
Applicants must have 4 years post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in a general surgery post at ST1/2 level or equivalent. Demonstrable experience of teaching and training ST1/2 or equivalent and F1s is also essential.
Desirable Qualifications
Additional qualifications such as distinctions, scholarships, or prizes will be viewed favorably. Experience working at middle grade in a surgical specialty and previous research experience are also desirable.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
Applicants must understand the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection. They should also understand the need for and appreciate the role of audit in clinical practice.
A solid understanding of clinical governance principles is essential to ensure patients are not put at risk. Competence in basic procedures such as CPR, infection control, physical examination, and history taking is required.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
A critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition is desirable. Evidence of leadership qualities, not necessarily limited to medicine, will be viewed favorably.
Remuneration and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary of £65,048 per annum, paid monthly through the NHS payroll system. This is based on the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scale.
In addition to salary, the successful candidate will receive 27 days of annual leave (plus bank holidays), access to the NHS Pension Scheme, and opportunities for professional development and training.
