About the Position
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is seeking an experienced Estates Officer to join their busy team. This permanent, full-time position based at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend offers an excellent opportunity for qualified professionals to contribute to maintaining a safe and secure healthcare environment. The role comes with a competitive salary ranging from £39,263 to £47,280 per annum, paid through the Agenda for change pay scheme at Band 6 level.
Key Responsibilities
The Estates Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Estates Manager to ensure the Trust’s electrical and mechanical equipment is maintained to statutory and mandatory standards. This involves maintaining and refining planned preventative maintenance, repair and replacement programmes, managing minor projects, and ensuring adherence to current legislation, regulations, and safe systems of work. The position requires participation in the Estates emergency on-call rota, which includes out-of-hours working as needed.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a Degree or HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, along with equivalent significant demonstrable experience and knowledge. Additionally, a relevant management qualification or equivalent experience of leading and managing staff within an Estates function is essential. These qualifications form the foundation of the technical expertise required to excel in this position.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have substantial experience of a wide range of Estates operation and compliance systems, processes, and procedures. This practical experience is critical for ensuring the effective day-to-day management of the hospital’s estate infrastructure. The role requires someone who can navigate the complexities of healthcare facilities management while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Desired Experience
While not required, experience of managing day-to-day professional and technical Estates and Facilities services within a mental health environment would be advantageous. This specialized experience would provide valuable context for the unique challenges and requirements of healthcare estate management, particularly in settings that serve vulnerable patient populations.
Knowledge Requirements
A proven knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and statutory obligations relating to Estates operations and compliance is essential for this position. Additionally, desirable knowledge includes familiarity with the NHS Estate code, Health Technical Memorandums in relation to engineering services, and Codes of Practice relating to Health and Safety and Engineering services.
Professional Memberships
While not mandatory, corporate or full member status with a relevant engineering body or institution would be viewed favorably. Similarly, being an authorized person for Low Voltage electrical systems, lifts, medical gases, hot and cold water systems (legionella), and/or management of asbestos in buildings would strengthen your application. An IOSH certificate for Managing Safety would also be considered beneficial.
