Position Details
The position is for a substantive consultant post within the Department of Respiratory Medicine. The successful candidate will join a team of fourteen NHS consultants, one Clinical Professor, and two nurse consultants, working in a department that is integrated with thoracic surgery and offers state-of-the-art facilities.

The position is based at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital in Norwich, a beautiful and historic city located in Norfolk. Compensation and Benefits

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold full GMC (General Medical Council) registration and accreditation in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. Completion of CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in respiratory and general internal medicine is required.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, along with practical bronchoscopy experience. The position requires equivalent to five years of training experience within the NHS, plus experience in Interstitial Lung Disease research and broad experience in Respiratory Medicine.
Desirable Qualifications
Additional qualifications such as MD or PhD are considered desirable but not essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities
The consultant will be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme, participating in clinical audit, quality improvement, and developing clinical guidelines. The role includes serving on the Consultant Staff Committee and sharing departmental management duties with colleagues.
Clinical Duties
The appointee will share on-call duties, in-patient responsibilities, and attend appropriate Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings. The role includes both clinical and educational supervision of junior doctors, as well as supporting clinical research activities within the department.
Teaching Commitments
As a university teaching hospital, the position includes commitments to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching. Successful candidates will have opportunities to contribute to medical student education at the University of East Anglia, which is consistently ranked among the top 20 medical schools in the UK.
Research Opportunities
The hospital is currently conducting three multi-centre NIHR funded studies in Interstitial Lung Disease, asthma, and bronchiectasis. There are also strong collaborative links with the Norwich Research Park and Norwich Radiology Academy, creating excellent opportunities for research development.
