About the Position
We are delighted to invite applications for a Senior Fellow in Musculoskeletal Oncology commencing from August 2026 for 12 months. This fellowship is designed for an experienced orthopaedic clinician who will benefit from a further period of development in the sub-speciality of MSK Oncology, in preparation for a consultant role.
The doctor will contribute to the provision of MSK Oncology orthopaedic surgery within the Trust. The Fellowship can be designed around the training needs of the successful applicant, with opportunity for independent practice dependent on level of experience. The fellowship is BOOS accredited.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Support out-patient clinics
- Assist in theatre lists, with potential for increased independent practice subject to experience and ability
- Assessment of new patients, with consultant supervision
- Clerk admissions where required and be responsible for the supervision of the junior team and day-to-day care of in-patients
- Attendance and supervision of ward rounds with junior fellow and specialist nurses
- Discharge requirements for in-patients
- Lead in surgical planning, and assist in clinic preparation and MDT duties
- Participate in audit and research
Duties will be Monday to Friday with time flexibility required within a normal working day. There is no hospital on-call requirement with this post.
Research activities will be supported through dedicated academic time and access to the hospital’s research facilities. Fellows are expected to contribute to at least one research project during their tenure.
About the Musculoskeletal Tumour Service
The Musculoskeletal Tumour Service at RJAH is one of the five Bone Sarcoma units commissioned by NHS England. It provides a comprehensive service in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours. It is part of the Greater Manchester and Oswestry Sarcoma Service (GMOSS) along with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
This appointment is to join the existing team of 3 consultants. The Montgomery Unit, a purpose built Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit, opened in 2016. It has a clinic suite of 3 consulting rooms, a treatment room, physiotherapy room, reception area, consultants office/conference room, secretarial and nursing offices.
The service manages over 500 new patient referrals annually, providing expertise in complex limb salvage surgeries, sarcoma resections, and reconstruction techniques. Close collaboration with oncology, radiology, and pathology ensures comprehensive patient care.
Advanced diagnostic capabilities include MRI, CT, PET-CT, and interventional radiology. The hospital participates in national sarcoma trials and has strong links with academic institutions.

Essential Qualifications
- Current and active GMC registration with license to practice and no restrictions to practice
- Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent
Essential Experience
- Four years’ postgraduate orthopaedic experience
- Ability to perform minor orthopaedic surgery unsupervised

The salary for this position is £73,992 per annum. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months.
