About the Role
Are you an experienced and skilled psychologist passionate about improving mental health services for young people with learning disabilities? Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is seeking a qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join their CAMHS Learning Disability team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a developing service and make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Position Summary
The successful applicant will deliver evidence-based clinical work via time-boundaried psychological interventions across Worcestershire. You will have a proven record of delivering evidence-based therapeutic work and will be expected to work compassionately and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. This role requires flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the field of child and adolescent mental health.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior clinician, you will provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior team members while receiving support from senior psychology leads within the Trust. You will work autonomously with your own caseload, managing the ebbs and flows of community-based mental health work. The role requires strong time management skills and the ability to work collaboratively within CAMHS and across multiple agencies.
Clinical Duties
You will work closely with the CAMHS Learning Disability team, actively engaging in MDTs, clinical case discussions, and risk formulations. You will sympathetically and efficiently manage escalations while keeping patient, family and staff wellbeing at the heart of all decisions. The role requires you to deliver specialized psychological assessments and interventions for patients with complex psychological presentations and physical health conditions.

Person Specification
We are looking for candidates who meet the following essential criteria. Please ensure your application demonstrates how you meet each requirement.
Essential Qualifications
You must hold a BSc/BA Honours degree at 2:1 or above in psychology, a postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and be eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS. You must also be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
Essential Experience
You need a minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist within the relevant area. You should have sufficient training and experience to be recognised by the Division of Clinical/Counselling Psychology as a suitably qualified psychologist to offer clinical placements to trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologists. Experience in applying psychological knowledge across different specialties is essential.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
You must possess advanced theoretical and applied knowledge of psychological approaches for people with psychological problems, including specialised psychological assessments and interventions for patients with complex psychological presentations and physical health conditions. Well-developed psychometric assessment skills and doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology are required.
Additional Requirements
You must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post and demonstrate excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English. The ability to work effectively within a team, across organisational boundaries, and manage competing demands is essential. You should also have good presentation and teaching skills and be proficient in IT skills including Microsoft Office applications.
