Job Summary

The team provides a county-wide service for both men and women and young people (who elect to be seen in Adult Services) over the age of 16, who need help, support and treatment for eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge-eating disorder and A-typical eating disorders.

The service operates Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and receives over 200 new referrals annually. The assessment process typically takes 1-2 sessions, with commissioners requiring assessments to be completed within 4 weeks of referral and treatment to start within 4 weeks of assessment.

Inpatient treatment is available at The Bennion Centre, Glenfield Hospital, Groby Road, Leicester, while community appointments take place in locations close to the patient’s home across Lincolnshire.

Role Responsibilities

The role consists of a combination of clinical, leadership and educational duties. The job plan provides for 7.5 direct clinical care sessions and 2.5 supporting professional activity programme activities, with additional PAs for a limited period as part of a recruitment and retention premium.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, the postholder will provide psychiatric assessments, medical assessments, risk assessments, liaising with other services and provide therapeutic input through various modalities. The position includes helping to develop the service and associated policies, following national guidance.

There are currently no formal management responsibilities, but the postholder is required to be a clinical supervisor to training/non-training grade doctors joining the team.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice
  • Included on the GMC Specialist register, or within 6 months of completing
  • Approved Clinician status, or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • DBS clearance

Desirable Qualifications

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Willingness to engage with further training
  • Additional clinical qualifications
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Essential Experience

  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Clinical training and experience required for gaining UK CCT, or other alternative routes, such as CESR Fellowship
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Widespread and detailed experience of assessment and management of patients relating to eating disorders
  • Ability to offer expert clinical independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
