About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the CAMHS Head2Head Multidisciplinary Team carrying out specialist speech and language therapy assessments and intervention for children and young people. The position focuses primarily on those referred via the Youth Justice Pathway. This clinical role requires a high level of clinical expertise and understanding of Neurodiversity including Autism and Developmental Language Disorder, along with an interest in Social and Emotional Mental Health and Youth Justice.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder is responsible for providing specialist speech and language assessment, formulation and diagnosis, requiring advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection, interpretation and analysis. This will include individual language and communication assessment and intervention where appropriate. You will support and advise the team regarding language and communication needs and how these may impact on children and young people’s ability to access wider team interventions and assessments.
You will contribute to risk assessment and formulation through highlighting communication needs, support case discussions and consultations within the team, and provide bespoke training and advice to the team as part of the wider CAMHS Speech and Language Therapy Service.
You will work directly with young people aged 10-18, many of whom present with complex presentations, including neurodevelopmental conditions, trauma histories, and speech, language, and communication difficulties (SLCN). Your role involves conducting specialist assessments, delivering tailored interventions, and supporting staff to embed communication-inclusive approaches across the service.

Essential Training and Qualifications
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Qualification
- Registered member of RCSLT
- Healthcare professional Council HCPC registration
- Ability to provide a specialist speech & language therapy assessment, formulation, intervention and advice
- Clinical educator skills
- Contribute to risk assessment and formulation through highlighting communication needs
- Highly relevant and specialist theoretical and practical knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice including broad range of assessments and treatments relevant to specialist client group
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Additional postgraduate training/experience up to Masters degree equivalent
- Experience of audit, service evaluation and standard setting
Essential Skills
You must demonstrate specialist theoretical and practical knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice. This includes a broad range of assessments and treatments relevant to the specialist client group and extensive knowledge of appropriate specialist therapeutic interventions in relation to speech and language therapy.
