Position Details
We are offering a permanent, full-time position working 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) within our Learning Disabilities Service in Hillingdon. This community-based role provides an excellent opportunity to work with intellectually disabled adults in London while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including Core Trainees, Higher Specialist Trainees, and fellow Consultant colleagues.
Salary and Benefits Package
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, plus London weighting of £2,162 per annum pro rata. Additionally, we offer a substantial Golden Hello of up to £30,000 (taxable and non-pensionable) and a comprehensive relocation package of up to £8,000 (subject to eligibility criteria). Clinical Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide specialist psychiatric services for adults with Learning Disabilities residing in Hillingdon. Your clinical duties will include diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, providing psychiatric expertise on mental health issues, and conducting specialist assessments. You will serve as Responsible Clinician for Learning Disability beds and provide rapid response to pre-admission assessments, including assessments under the Mental Health Act.
Community and Inpatient Services
You will support and develop ongoing psychiatric input for individuals with Learning Disabilities living in the community, attending community team referrals, complex case reviews, and clinical governance meetings. Your clinical caseload will include clinic-based appointments, work in local residential providers, and day resources. Additionally, you will provide Consultant Psychiatric services for Learning Disability patients admitted to Frays and Crane Ward at The Riverside Centre.
Educational Opportunities
CNWL has established excellent links with Brunel University, and the successful candidate will have the option to take up an additional 1PA as an educational post. Essential Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice. Essential qualifications include inclusion on the GMC specialist register or Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) within 6 months of interview, approval under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 (or within 3 months), and Approved Clinician status (or within 3 months of appointment). Up-to-date knowledge in management of adults with learning disability is required.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, desirable qualifications include MRCPsych or equivalent, inclusion on GMC specialist register for learning disabilities, management training/qualifications, recognition by Royal College of Psychiatrists as a specialist registrar trainer, and higher degrees in fields related to Psychiatry (LLM, MD, or PhD). Specialist interest demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies is also desirable.
Experience Requirements
Essential experience includes up-to-date knowledge in management of adults with learning disability and awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation. Desirable experience includes multi-agency work with user, carer and voluntary organizations, medico-legal work experience, and experience in service management and development.
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of clinical skill, ability to work constructively in multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency systems, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and commitment to working with users, carers and voluntary organizations. Desirable skills include established record of clinical leadership, teaching ability, research and audit capabilities, specific treatment modality skills, computer literacy, and skills in assessing and managing people with autism and epilepsy.
