Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Learning Disability to join our dedicated team at North Moor House in Northallerton. This is a replacement post that has become available due to the retirement of our previous Consultant Psychiatrist. Service Area and Location
The post is based within the Adult Learning Disability Community Team at North Moor House in Northallerton, North Yorkshire (DL6 2FG). The service covers Hambleton & Richmondshire District plus Botton Village, which is a large Camphill Village Trust community in The North York Moors. This service is specifically commissioned by the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
Salary and Benefits Package
We offer an attractive salary range of £105,504 to £139,882 per year, depending on experience. This is a permanent position with part-time and flexible working options available. Employment Details
This is a permanent, part-time position with flexible working arrangements. The working pattern can be discussed during the interview process to accommodate the successful candidate’s needs. Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide specialist psychiatric care within our community-based service. Postholders’ cases will also have a keyworker from the team, usually a community nurse. The team is highly regarded by local statutory and third-sector partners with an excellent history of collaborative working. Services are provided across Hambleton, Richmondshire, and Botton Village areas, serving a total population of approximately 150,000.
Clinical Responsibilities
The Consultant will hold clinics at North Moor House and conduct home visits as needed. There are excellent relationships with local mental health, Child and Young Person Services (CYPS), and Older Person services, which also have offices based at North Moor House. Close working relationships exist with North Yorkshire Social Services, with regular meetings maintained.
Collaborative Working
Liaison meetings are held with the Acute Liaison Team for South Tees Hospitals and with local GP practices on a rolling basis. The postholder will work with a range of system partners including colleagues from Primary Care, Local Authority, and various Voluntary Sector partners.
Inpatient Care Arrangements
This is a community-based post. Patients requiring inpatient treatment, where appropriate, are admitted under Greenlight arrangements to Adult Mental Health wards. There is also access to Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment beds at Bankfields Court, Middlesbrough, which is part of TEWV services. Responsible Clinician (RC) responsibilities are managed by the inpatient Consultants.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must possess an MB BS or equivalent medical qualification and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Essential requirements include the ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training, participation in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation experience, ability to use and appraise clinical evidence, and active participation in clinical audit.
Desirable Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include the ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post, reflection on the purpose of CPD undertaken, experience in clinical research and/or service evaluation, evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement (awards, prizes, presentations, publications), and experience leading clinical audits leading to service change.
Essential Experience
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to reflect on own performance and behaviour, seeking and acting on feedback. Essential experience includes the ability to influence and persuade to improve services, take on leadership roles in multidisciplinary teams, knowledge of the structure and management of the NHS and the Trust, commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology (or ability to achieve within one year of appointment), and ability to adapt to and lead service change.
Clinical Knowledge and Skills Requirements
Excellent knowledge in specialty with excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English, ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, make decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others, and ability to meet duties under Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
Leadership Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to take on leadership roles in multidisciplinary teams with knowledge of NHS structure and management. Desirable leadership qualities include the ability to take on leadership roles outside the multidisciplinary team, understanding of the NHS and wider health economy and its implications for the Trust’s work, and training to standard equivalent to Level 2 in TEWV Trust Quality Improvement system.
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to academic excellence and continuous professional development. This includes participation in research or service evaluation activities, ability to use and appraise clinical evidence, and active involvement in clinical audit processes.
